War 2 Review: Big Stars, Huge Budget, But Weak Execution

This War 2 review takes a deep dive into one of the most awaited action thrillers of the year. The sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War, this film expands YRF’s spy universe with a massive ₹400 crore budget and a star-studded lineup. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 brings back Hrithik Roshan as the charismatic Kabir and introduces Jr. NTR in a powerful role, alongside Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Ashutosh Rana. With exotic locations, high-octane action, and the promise of thrilling drama, expectations were sky-high.

War 2 Review

However, the cinematic journey turns out to be a mixed bag. The first half struggles with pacing, feeling slow and directionless. While the introductions of Hrithik and Jr. NTR are engaging and well-executed, Jr. NTR’s dialogues don’t land as effectively as expected. The action sequences in this portion also disappoint — heavily CGI-driven, at times with an almost AI-generated feel, stripping them of realism. For a ₹400 crore spectacle, the dullness here is hard to overlook.

The second half offers some redemption, delivering a few well-timed twists and improved action choreography. Dialogues pick up, but the ending still lacks the knockout punch you’d expect from a high-profile spy thriller.

Highlights include the vibrant Janaab-e-Ali song, standout character introductions, and some strong performances. Anil Kapoor impresses in his role, Kiara Advani brings depth to her character, and Ashutosh Rana continues to shine.

In the end, War 2 is a good attempt with a strong star cast but marred by weak execution. It entertains in parts but doesn’t fully deliver the edge-of-the-seat excitement fans were hoping for.
